Hearing Examinations
We offer metro Atlanta with the most comprehensive hearing examination. There are three parts to our hearing examination.
1. Medical History:
We will ask you about your previous medical history, and past experiences where you were exposed to loud sounds. Things like family history, aging, genetics are all common reasons of hearing loss. We need this information to determine if your current hearing loss is influenced by any conditions you currently have.
2. Otoscopic examination
We'll then look into your ears with a video otoscope. Don't worry, this is minimally invasive and most of our patients enjoy seeing inside their ears. Something as simple as earwax accumulation, that may block the passage of sounds to the middle and inner ear, can be a cause of temporary hearing loss.
3. Diagnostic Evaluations
A comprehensive hearing evaluation will be completed using state of the art Audiometric testing equipment. Our practice has the ability to administer Tympanometry, Otoacoustic Emission testing and computer based Audiometry. Our equipment can also help us assist in understanding your tinnitus challenges. You will find that our custom built sound booth is spacious and ADA compliant. These comprehensive audiological evaluations will provide valuable information including the severity of your hearing loss, the type of loss, the frequencies you may be missing, and your ability to understand speech in noise. We accept most insurance plans, and will bill your insurance for the testing you recieve.
Hearing Aid Fittings
If treatable hearing loss is detected upon the completion of your diagnostic work up, we will work with you to find the best solution to treat your hearing needs. We offer 5 tiers of hearing technology to best suit your needs. We believe in personalizing your listening experience, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Our goal is to find the right hearing instrument for you and to properly fit them to treat your specific hearing loss. We are proud to verify all of our hearing aid fittings using brand new Real-Ear verification technology.
We believe that fitting hearing aids using Real-Ear technology is the gold standard for the best hearing aid fittings. Lastly, if you had purchased and were fit with hearing aids from another hearing clinic, and are not satisfied with their performance, we can gladly offer you a free assessment to see if we can improve your current hearing aids’ performance.
Tinnitus Treatment
- Are you experiencing ringing, roaring or any other hearing sounds that are bothersome?
- Is this something you hear often?
- Is the sound interfering with your enjoyment of life?
You could have tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of sound when there is no physical source of it around, and almost always no one else can hear it. For those with these symptoms, we recommend being evaluated to best understand your tinnitus and discuss treatment options. We’re excited to work with you to recommend the best course of action to help lessen this troubling problem.
Earwax Removal
Earwax is a substance that we are all familiar with. When earwax accumulates in the ears, it can contribute to a range of unpleasant symptoms including discomfort, hearing challenges, tinnitus (ringing noise in the ears), and even infection. Though people commonly use a cotton swab to remove earwax, this strategy is hazardous. Cotton swabs can further push earwax into the ears and cause injury. Sometimes the best solution is to have earwax professionally removed, to ensure safety and thoroughness. At Great Atlanta Hearing, our experts have extensive experience removing earwax and providing quality care.
Hearing Aid Repairs
Before you consider visiting our practice for a hearing aid repair, try the following procedures:
- Check that there isn’t wax in the receiver and openings.
- Make sure the tubes are properly connected to the device.
- Look to see if there is a blockage of the microphone.
- Check for physical cracks in the hearing aid shell.
- Make sure there is enough power (rechargeable devices) and make sure the volume control settings are working properly.
- Check to see the battery is working properly and fit inside the hearing aid
If you complete this checklist and your hearing aids still don’t work, please schedule an appointment for us to get your hearing aids checked in our new in-office repair lab. Even if you purchased your hearing aid at a different clinic we will try everything in our power to fix them during your scheduled visit. For more involved repairs, we will likely send them to the manufacturer for repair.
Prices for repairs depend on the severity of the problem and whether the hearing aid is under warranty. If the latter is true, you will rarely have to pay for your repairs.
Custom Hearing Protection
Our ears are highly sensitive and susceptible to long term damage when exposed to loud sounds. That is why we must look after them and defend them from harmful long-term effects of excessive noise exposure. Our custom hearing protection products protect your ears from intense volume of noise to help lessen the possibility of future damage. These custom made devices ensure a proper fit and attenuation of noise.
One of the most common uses of hearing protection are for hunters. If you would like to explore the options of custom made hearing protection, we can gladly help. In our office we have the ability to make custom impressions of your ears and we have agreements with the world’s best hunters’ noise protection devices.
Musician Monitors
We offer custom-fitted in-ear monitors for musicians. These custom-molded earphones are used by bands, artists, and singers as they perform to help them hear their fellow musicians as well as themselves. For many, these are an improvement on the feedback-prone monitors you usually get on stage. The monitor mix is delivered directly to the ear, and the volume can be controlled individually. They also provide essential protection against high ambient noise levels.
